Pizza, Pizza!

Posted on February 2, 2016 at 12:12 PM by Christina Stuck

For the next month, in story time we will be learning about and using our five senses. The fun thing about these topics is that you can name one thing and use all five to discover it. (Please note that we will be discussing loss of hearing and of sight when we touch on those senses.)

Pizza. It is definitely one of those things you can use all of your senses to explore. I did not do any of these activities and songs during our today's Tasting Story Time (lack of time!), but I wanted to share them with you because you can do them at home! Easy peasey!

Activity #1: Make pizza at home, any old way you want! The kids can hear the way the ingredients come together and even how they sound going into their mouths! Discuss how the things feel, how they taste. What they like about it and what they don't. This activity is a great way to discuss sequencing, temperature, and measurement.

Song #1: You can sing this song while making the pizza:
Pat-a-Cake, Pizza Man (tune of "Pat-a-Cake")

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, Pizza Man!
Make me a pizza as fast as you can.
Roll it and toss it and sprinkle it with cheese.
Put it in the oven and bake it fast, please!

Activity #2: This one is a bit more time consuming to do, but man oh man will it be fun! Please visit A Librarian Less Ordinary's web site for the information and material she used to make a giant pizza. We do not own the book she uses for the prop, but really...you can do this activity without a book for entertainment! Very engaging for kids of all ages!

Song #2: Another fun pizza song.
Pizza, Pizza (tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle")
Pizza, pizza, it's a treat.
Pizza, pizza, is fun to eat!
Ooey-gooey cheese so yummy.
Crunchy crust goes in my tummy.
Pizza, pizza, it's a treat.
Pizza, pizza, is fun to eat!

Activity #3: Check out Pete's A Pizza and reenact it. You can or even siblings can try to do it with each other.
