A scarf is a wonderfully cheap toy! It is also extremely versatile. It can be anything and can help your child to imagine. Today during story time, we did a little imagination play with our scarves to a rhyme called "Firecracker." (I learned this rhyme while taking a UNT Early Childhood Music class with my son.)
Firecracker, firecracker Begin to scrunch the scarf into one hand
What do you do? Continue to scrunch
You burst and you pop
And you just won't stop.
Oohhhhh.... Lift both hands above head, with scarf enclosed
This rhyme with scarf play also helps to refine your child's pincher/grasping skills. With the sharpening of these muscles in the hands, your child is developing prewriting skills.
