The Council elects a deputy mayor from the council for a one-year term, or until the council is reorganized, who shall act as mayor during the absence or inability of the mayor to serve. If a vacancy should occur in the office of mayor, the deputy mayor shall serve for the remainder of the mayor's term or until the next general election, whichever shall first occur.
