Sherman Fire-Rescue operates five fire stations, four engine companies, four Mobile Intensive Care Units (MICU), one truck company and a Battalion vehicle. The Department is staffed with 85 certified firefighters, one fire chief and two administrative assistants. Of the 85 certified firefighters, 16 are emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and 69 are paramedics. We have 18 firefighters that are members of our Technical Rescue Team and have specialized training and certifications in swift-water rescues, ropes, high-angle rescues, trench rescues and confined space rescues.
The Department responds to approximately 7500 calls for service per year. Of those calls, about 60% are medical calls, 20% are fire related and 20% are other calls which are considered public service calls, false alarms, hazardous materials incidents and moving vehicle accidents (MVAs).
Sherman Fire-Rescue provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the City of Sherman as well as contracted portions of Grayson County. All five of our fire stations are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Stations are strategically located throughout the city.
