Engineering coordinates and manages the city's capital improvement projects. The department prepares plans and specifications for construction of city water, sewer, storm drain and street facilities by either city employees or private contractors.

Engineering also is responsible for mapping water, sewer and other municipal structures on city-adopted base maps and for floodplain management.
