Property Taxes

The City of Sherman enjoys a property tax rate that is lower than the majority of surrounding city governments. The property tax rate for the City of Sherman was $.40 per $100 valuation for 2007 and will be $.32 per $100 valuation for 2008. The rate for 2008 will yield more than $6,500,000 annually in revenue for the General Fund.

City of Sherman property taxes are now collected through Grayson County. Checks should be made out to John Ramsey, Tax Assessor/Collector. They may either be mailed or taken directly to the Courthouse, located at 100 W. Houston in downtown Sherman.

The Grayson County Appraisal District is still responsible for valuing your property. Their offices are located in Sherman at 205 N. Travis. To appeal the appraisal of a property, you will need to contact the Appraisal District. Their phone number is (903) 893-9673.

The Grayson County Appraisal District offers a variety of valuable information on their web site, including property tax rates, exemptions, appraised values, taxpayer rights, and tax forms, not to mention e-mail addresses for staff members and related links. From their site, you can view your property and its current value.
