As general aviation expands away from the crowded skies over the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Sherman Municipal Airport (KSWI) provides a friendly general aviation airport located on the southeast edge of Sherman, Texas, only minutes from downtown. The 4005’ x 75’ runway now has completed taxiways to both RWY 16 and RWY 34 with the completion of recent construction.  Additional ramp space is provided on the north end, which expands tiedown spaces.  Ramp access is also available to the south.  Space is available.  You may call 903-892-7035 for information.  The airport is attended 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., 7 days per week.  Pilots have access to the facilities in the terminal building after hours through use of a simplex lock on the ramp side door.  The combination is the national aircraft emergency frequency.  Telephone, local/800/calling card, television, and restroom facilities are available.  Fuel is self-service; and an automated credit card system allows access to fuel after hours.  Check out our low fuel prices:  $3.38/gallon weekdays & weekends (as of 08/25/10).  The airport has pilot-controlled lighting, which is radio-activated on the CTAF.  Check out the rest of these pages for additional amenities offered.

News on Airport Watch Program

In cooperation with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Sherman Municipal Airport has instituted the Airport Watch Program. This program was launched as a result of the events of 9/11. While the small general aviation airplane has not proved to be a threat, it is nevertheless a good idea for pilots and the general public to be aware of what is going on at our local airport. Informational brochures were mailed to the pilots/tenants at the airport explaining the Airport Watch Program. These brochures also were made available to local law enforcement personnel. The Airport Watch Program solicits the help of pilots to watch for suspicious activity around the airport. If activity is spotted, but it does not appear to be of a critical nature, the pilot will call 1-866-GA-SECURE. If it does appear to be critical, the pilot is asked to call 911 first. This program also encourages pilots to provide security to their aircraft by locking them while unattended. To learn more about this program, call Jeff Miller at 903-892-7035 or Ross Richardson, the AOPA Airport Support Network representative, at 903-893-4221.
